The Intel Ethernet Converged Network Adapter X710-DA2 is a classic, widely-deployed enterprise-grade server network adapter belonging to the Intel Ethernet 700 Series. Unlike the newer E810-XXVDA2 (which supports 25GbE and PCIe 4.0), the X710-DA2 is built for 10 Gigabit (10GbE) networks running over a PCIe 3.0 bus.

X710-DA2

  • Advanced Offloads & Virtualization
Despite being an older generation, it still provides stable networking features for standard virtualization stacks:
    • Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-c): Includes Single Root I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV) and Virtual Machine Device Queues (VMDq) to maximize virtual machine throughput.
    • Network Virtualization Offloads: Hardware-accelerated stateless offloads for VXLAN, NVGRE, and GENEVE overlays.
    • Dynamic Device Personalization (DDP): Programmable pipeline processing to optimize packet processing efficiency for cloud deployments.
While the X710-DA2 lacks modern hardware acceleration for heavy cloud infrastructure (like NVMe-over-Fabrics RDMA storage offloads), it draws significantly less power and generates far less heat than the E810 series.
